The Nanshan Highlands — 800m Elevation
The journey of ROKURA Edition 1 begins in the persistent mist of the Nanshan Highlands, Zhejiang.
At an elevation of 800 meters, the environment is naturally optimized for the slow growth of the tea leaf. Cool temperatures, mountain air, and consistent cloud cover encourage the plants to develop higher concentrations of chlorophyll and naturally occurring L-Theanine — creating the signature jade-green vibrancy and calm clarity that define Rokura.
Unlike lower-elevation tea farms focused on speed and mass production, the Highlands allow the leaves to mature slowly and with greater depth.
The result is a matcha with:
- Rich umami balance
- Smooth sustained energy
- Minimal bitterness
- Clean cognitive focus
First-Flush Integrity
While many commercial matcha producers rely on multiple harvests throughout the year, Rokura is defined by restraint.
We harvest exclusively during the First Spring Flush.
Only the youngest and most delicate tencha leaves are selected during this brief seasonal window — when nutrient density, amino acid concentration, and flavor complexity are at their peak.
This commitment to a single annual harvest allows each edition to retain exceptional freshness, vibrant color, and a naturally balanced energy profile.
No shortcuts. No over-harvesting. No compromise on quality.
The Granite Slow-Grind
The transformation from leaf to powder is a process built on patience.
Our tencha is traditionally stone-ground using granite mills rotating at extremely low speeds.
This slower process helps preserve the leaf’s delicate molecular structure by minimizing heat friction, which can otherwise damage flavor compounds, aroma, and nutrients.
Each mill produces only a small amount of matcha per hour — prioritizing integrity over scale.
The result is an exceptionally fine powder with:
- Electric jade-green color
- Fresh grassy aroma
- Silky texture
- Smooth ceremonial finish

Rooted in Origin
The history of stone-ground tea traces back centuries to China, where tea leaves were first milled into fine powder during the Tang Dynasty.
Rokura honours this origin through a slower, more intentional approach to matcha — balancing ancient tea heritage with modern wellness rituals.
Ancient ritual. Modern focus.
